Saliva Alcohol and Drug Testing

Saliva (oral fluid) alcohol and drug testing is a non-invasive screening method that detects very recent substance use, often within minutes to hours after consumption. It is commonly used for reasonable suspicion, post-accident, and roadside or on-site testing due to its ease of collection and minimal privacy concerns. Oral fluid testing identifies the parent drug rather than metabolites, making it a strong indicator of active or recent impairment. Alcohol can be detected in saliva with a close correlation to blood alcohol concentration during the early post-use period. The observed collection process reduces the risk of tampering or substitution, increasing result reliability. When required, presumptive results may be sent to certified laboratories for confirmatory testing to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.
